Anthony Smith became the new Chair of Independent Rail Retailers (IRR) today after stepping down from his role as Chief Executive at Transport Focus.

Anthony has been the voice of Britain’s transport users for almost 25 years, having been Chief Executive of Transport Focus and its predecessor bodies since 1999. Under his leadership, the organisation gained a strong reputation for evidence-based campaigning and research to influence decisions and get the best deal for passengers.

Chair of Independent Rail Retailers responds to Virgin Train Ticketing’s Charter for Change

Following today’s launch of the Virgin Trains Ticketing ‘Charter for Change’, Anthony Smith, Chairman of Independent Rail Retailers said

“Buying a train ticket affects every rail passenger, and as the trade body for independent retailers, we fully support Virgin Trains Ticketing’s call for reform to make it simpler, easier and cheaper for rail passengers. The fact that their proposed changes require no updates to legislation should not just be welcomed, but actively supported by all political parties as part of the solution to the gap in rail’s post-Covid finances.”
