We represent most of the independent retailers of train tickets in Great Britain. Every organisation that is interested in growing rail revenues and leading the rail recovery is welcome to join - you don’t have to be retailing tickets directly, just helping to drive the recovery of rail in Great Britain, and willing to journey with us, and the rest of the industry, to achieve that.
People
Our board of directors comprises representatives from the original founding members - Assertis, Click Travel, Evolvi, Raileasy, Silverrail and Trainline - in 2017. Together they have almost 100 years of collective fares, ticketing and retailing experience in the rail industry. In 2020 we changed our name to Independent Rail Retailers (from Third Party Rail Retailers Association) to better represent what we do.
Anthony Smith (Chair)
Anthony became the new Chair or IRR on 1st January 2024, taking over from Alistair Lees. He was the voice of Britain’s transport users for almost 25 years, having been Chief Executive of Transport Focus and its predecessor bodies from 1999 until 2023; under his leadership, the organisation gained a strong reputation for evidence-based campaigning and research to influence decisions and get the best deal for passengers.
Alistair Lees
Alistair has been chair of Independent Rail Retailers since it was founded, and is also the Managing Director and founder of Assertis. Alistair has worked in the rail industry, including for the Strategic Rail Authority, ATOC (as it was then), Railtrack, Arriva, First Group, for over 20 years, and has been directly involved in fares, ticketing and retailing for the past 15 years.
John Davies
represents Trainline, where he is VP of Industry Relations. John has extensive rail experience, including stints working for GNER, Qjump, National Express and CrossCountry.
Andrew Cantrell
is the Managing Director of Evolvi, and has been working within the rail industry, specifically in the area of fares, ticketing and retailing, for the past 15 years.
George Sikking
is the founder of Raileasy, and has been retailing rail tickets online since 2007.
Tim Martin
represents Silverrail, where he is the Technical Account Manager. Tim has worked in ticketing in the rail industry for over 15 years, at ATOC / RDG, NRE and c2c before joining Silverrail.
James Mclean
is the co-founder of Click Travel and has over 22 years experience in the travel industry. Click Travel is represented by Neil Rogers for day to day matters.
Angus Cameron
is the Head of UK Industry Relations at Trainline , where he has worked for over 10 years, and provides support for our operations.
